Anthony Kukovica, owner and head trainer at Apex Personal Fitness in Niagara Falls, NY

Owner + Head Trainer

Whatever you came in to do, I have coached it before.

I opened Apex in 2013 on Military Road with one rule: no crowds, no contracts, and nobody watching you learn. Thirteen years later we run two private facilities in Niagara County and I am still on the floor most days.

I have coached eighty year olds working on mobility and competitors prepping for a physique show, sometimes in the same afternoon. That variety is the part I like.

Why I Coach

I started lifting at twelve, in my dad’s basement. Growing up I played just about every sport there was and stuck with football and lacrosse through high school. The plan was to play in college, until I decided academics mattered more.

I went to school to become a chiropractor. Personal training was an elective I took to understand my own workouts better, and it turned into a job at a franchise gym to pay for school. I still think that is where every trainer should start, learning on a big company’s dime, in front of every kind of client there is, until you work out what sort of coach you actually want to be. When it came time to start grad school at D’Youville for chiropractic, I opened Apex instead.

I coach quiet. I am technical about form, I am patient, and I will go at your speed for as long as that takes. What I call my approach is the disappointed dad. I am not going to yell at you and I am not going to get angry with you. We are just going to have a conversation about how we do it better next time.

If you are new, you will not be handed a printout and left alone. If you have been lifting for years, you will not be given a beginner program because it is easier to write. The only place you and I would ever end up at odds is if the work is not getting done. I can lead a horse to water. I cannot make it drink.

How I Coach

01

We Talk First

A complimentary consultation before you pay anything. Medical history, your goals, nutrition and any dietary restrictions, and measurements. Everything I need to write your program.

02

We Build the Plan

A program written for your body and the schedule you really keep, not a template pulled off a clipboard.

03

We Adjust

Every few weeks we look at what the numbers are doing and change whatever is not moving.

In Their Own Words

Training at Apex is my opportunity to challenge myself and focus on my health goals.

Apex feels like home. Comfortable and familial, not a place I have to psych myself up to walk into.

Anthony is the most patient trainer I’ve ever worked with.

I’m so glad I found this place and took the chance to walk in.

He pushes me without ever making me feel judged.

Training With Anthony

What happens in the first session?

We talk before we train. You walk me through your history, any injuries, and what you want, then we move through a few basic patterns so I can see how you actually move. You leave knowing what the plan is.

Which location do you train out of?

Niagara Falls, at 2416 Military Rd. If Youngstown is the easier drive for you, ask and we can usually train there instead. Your membership includes full access to both facilities either way.

Do I need to be a member to train with you?

No. Anyone can sign up for personal training without a gym membership. I do recommend one, because getting comfortable with the equipment on your own time makes the sessions go further, and more days in the gym each week works in your favor.

What does personal training cost?

Training is sold in four week packages based on how often you want to train, one to five times a week, so 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 sessions at a time. Individual sessions are $35 for 30 minutes or $60 for 60 minutes. Partner sessions are $25 per person for 30 minutes or $35 per person for 60 minutes. The rates are the same whichever trainer you work with.

Do you handle nutrition too?

Yes. For most of my clients it is built into the training rather than bought separately, because I would rather work on your food and your workouts together. There is also a standalone Custom Nutrition Plan if that is genuinely all you need.

Ready to Train?

Free first session. No contract, no pressure, no crowd.
