What Actually Produced These

“The most common reason somebody fails at weight loss is not following the diet. Exercise is 30 or 60 minutes of your day, especially when you have a trainer holding you accountable. It’s the other 23 hours, when you have to follow a program to eat, that falls on your shoulders. Ultimately it’s a 24 hour a day job.”

Anthony Kukovica, owner and head coach at Apex Personal Fitness, coaching since 2013

It Starts With a Conversation

Before anyone pays anything, we sit down and go through medical history, goals, nutrition, dietary restrictions and measurements. The plan gets written for you, not pulled off a clipboard.

The Program Changes

Macros, calories and routines get reworked roughly every six weeks. Weight tends to come off quickly at the start and slow down after that, which is normal rather than a warning sign. The program keeps moving so your progress does too.

You Show Up

Anthony’s rule of thumb is never going more than two days without exercise, which works out to training at least three times a week. The people in these photos did that for months.

Before You Compare Yourself to a Photo

How long did these take?

It varies, and anyone who gives you a fixed number is guessing. Weight tends to come off faster at the start and slow down as you go, which is normal rather than a sign something is wrong. What stays constant is the program getting reworked about every six weeks.

What if the scale stops moving?

A plateau on the scale does not mean nothing is happening. Strength, movement quality and what you are able to lift usually keep climbing through it. That is part of why we measure more than one thing.

Do I need a trainer, or can I just join the gym?

Both work. A membership gets you 24 hour app access to both locations. Personal training adds a coach and a written program, and does not require a membership. Most of the people in these photos worked with a coach.

I am starting from nothing. Is this the wrong place?

No. Membership is capped so the gym stays quiet and uncrowded, which is usually what people starting out are actually worried about. Anthony coaches everyone from eighty year olds working on mobility through to physique competitors.
